Answer a few questions about your project to get a personalized price range.

Step 1 of 6

How complex is the project?

Typical Price Ranges

Brand identity projects vary widely in scope. Here are typical rate ranges based on project type and experience level, drawn from current market data.

Project TypeJuniorMid-LevelSeniorExpert
Logo + Color Palette$800 – $1,500$1,500 – $3,000$3,000 – $6,000$6,000 – $12,000
Visual Identity System$1,500 – $3,000$3,000 – $6,000$6,000 – $12,000$12,000 – $25,000
Full Brand Guidelines$2,000 – $4,000$4,000 – $8,000$8,000 – $15,000$15,000 – $35,000
Brand Refresh$1,000 – $2,000$2,000 – $5,000$5,000 – $10,000$10,000 – $20,000

Worked Examples

Rate tables give you a range. These are three concrete briefs, the number we would quote for each, and the reasoning behind it.

Boutique Fitness Studio Identity

A two-location studio needs a logo, colour palette, type system, and templates for class schedules and social posts. Light competitive research, three revision rounds, seven weeks.

$5,500

The logo and palette are roughly a third of this. The type system, the two template families and the research pass carry the rest. Templates are the line most designers under-scope: each one needs building, testing with real content, and handing over in a format the client can actually edit.

B2B Software Rebrand with Guidelines

A 60-person company rebranding after a pivot. Positioning workshop, full visual identity, a 40-page guidelines document, and application designs for web, sales decks and event booths.

$28,000

Strategy work drives this number as much as design does. The workshop and positioning phase is billable senior time, the guidelines document alone is two to three weeks of writing and layout, and every application design multiplies the revision surface. Stakeholder count at this size adds review cycles.

Non-Profit Brand Refresh

A regional charity wants its existing identity modernised: refined logo, new palette, updated typography, and a short usage sheet. Existing name and mark structure retained.

$4,200

A refresh is cheaper than a ground-up identity because the strategic groundwork already exists and the mark structure is fixed. It is not cheap: colour and type changes cascade across every existing asset, and the client will expect guidance on what to update first. Scope the audit explicitly.

Factors That Affect Pricing

Brand identity pricing depends on several key variables. Here's what to consider when quoting your next project.

Scope of Deliverables

A logo and color palette is a fraction of the work compared to a full brand guidelines document with templates, iconography, and application examples.

Research & Strategy

Strong brand identity starts with competitive research, audience analysis, and brand positioning. If you're doing strategic work, price it in — it's where the real value lies.

Number of Applications

Business cards, letterheads, social templates, signage mockups — each application adds design and production time to the project.

Revision Complexity

Brand identity revisions often cascade — a color change ripples across every deliverable. Factor in the compound effort of system-wide updates.

Client Size & Industry

A funded startup expects and budgets for premium brand work. A local shop may have tighter constraints. Price for the client's context and the value the brand delivers.

Usage Rights & Exclusivity

Will the brand identity be used globally across all media? Broad usage rights and exclusivity warrant higher pricing.

What to Put in the Quote

Most scope disputes start with a line the quote never mentioned. Name what the price covers, and name what costs extra, before the work starts.

Include in the base price

  • The logo suite: primary, secondary and icon marks in all required orientations
  • A defined colour palette with primary, secondary and neutral roles
  • A typographic system naming licensed fonts, weights and hierarchy rules
  • Imagery or illustration direction, at minimum a described style with examples
  • A usage sheet covering clear space, minimum sizes and common misuse
  • The agreed number of applications, each named individually
  • A named number of revision rounds at the system level, not per asset

Charge separately for

  • Brand strategy, positioning or naming as separate engagements
  • A full guidelines document beyond the agreed usage sheet
  • Each additional application or template beyond the named list
  • Font licensing purchased on the client behalf
  • Custom illustration, iconography or photography commissioned for the system
  • Rollout support: asset migration, vendor liaison or print supervision
  • Editable source files and template masters
  • Motion or animated versions of the identity

Pricing Mistakes to Avoid

The four errors that cost freelancers the most money on this kind of work.

1

Treating Strategy as Free Discovery

Research, competitive analysis and positioning routinely take as long as the design phase and deliver most of the value. Folding them into a design fee hides that work and makes the design look overpriced. Quote strategy as its own phase with its own deliverable.

2

Not Capping the Application List

Identity projects grow one asset at a time: a business card, then a deck template, then a van wrap. Each addition seems small to the client. List every application in the quote by name, and price anything not on the list separately at a stated rate.

3

Ignoring the Revision Cascade

Changing one colour in an identity system changes every deliverable that uses it. A revision that takes minutes on a logo takes days across a full system. Define revision rounds at the system level and state that a system-wide change consumes a full round.

4

Under-Scoping the Guidelines Document

A guidelines document is a writing and layout project, not an export. Forty pages of rules, examples and do-not-do illustrations is two to three weeks of work. Quote it as a distinct deliverable with its own page count, or replace it with a short usage sheet.

The Brand Identity Market in 2026

Demand for full identity systems has grown as brands publish across more surfaces than a set of static files can cover. A 2026 identity is expected to work in dark mode, in app icons, in short-form video, and in AI-generated marketing assets — which means designers are shipping token systems and component rules, not just PDFs.

That expansion has been good for rates at the senior end and demanding at every level. The designers charging most are the ones who deliver identity as a working system the client team can operate without them. If your handover requires you to be in the room, you are selling a document. If it does not, you are selling infrastructure, and it prices accordingly.
